Learn about the uses of zinc hemispheres in decorative products, furniture, lighting, industrial and art design.
What is the Zinc Hemisphere?
Zinc hemispheres are three-dimensional, hemispherical metal parts made from pure zinc or Zamak (Zn-Al based) alloys. They are produced using methods such as die casting, deep drawing/hydroforming (titanium-zinc sheet), or metal spinning. Their high surface quality, ease of coating, and machinability make them suitable for both industrial and decorative applications.
Main Areas of Application
1. Decorative and Architectural Applications
• Decorations: Interior and exterior decorative elements, signage headings, facade finials/covers.
• Coating & finishing: Chrome, nickel, brass plating; also powder coating, clear varnish, brushed/satin finish.
• Outdoor note: To prevent white rust, a suitable primer + topcoat and intermediate coat (if in contact with copper/steel) is recommended.
2. Lighting and Furniture Design
• Lighting: Body/bowl/rosette or reflector element in chandeliers, floor lamps, and wall sconces.
• Furniture: Leg caps, decorative covers, joint concealment parts.
• Heat management: Zamak parts may be prone to creep at temperatures of ~120°C+ for extended periods; heat dissipation and wall thickness are important considerations in the design.
3. Industrial and Mechanical Applications
• Protective cover/shield: Corner/head protection, warning/equipment cover on machinery and equipment.
• Prototyping/Molding: Hemispherical geometry is preferred for prototype shells, jig-fixture tips, and mold testing.
• Assembly: Threaded pin/rivet, blind nut, adhesive (epoxy/acrylate) or soft solder; welding is not recommended (low melting point, fumes).
4. Art and Hobby Products
• Jewelry & accessories: Decorative domes on necklaces/badges/objects (pay attention to nickel release/plating regulations).
• Modeling & crafts: Cast or pressed hemispheres for model making, cosplay, and decorative objects.
