What is Magnesium Sulfate Monohydrate?

Magnesium sulfate monohydrate (MgSO₄·H₂O) is known by its mineral name kieserite. It is a water-soluble, white crystalline magnesium salt. It has a higher magnesium content than its heptahydrate form. It is preferred as a reliable mineral source in the agriculture, feed, food, textile, ceramics, chemistry, construction, water treatment and aquarium sectors.
Main Areas of Use

1) Agriculture (Kieserit – Fertilizer and Soil Regulation)

    •    Source of magnesium and sulfate: It plays a critical role in photosynthesis and enzyme activities in plant development.

    •    Soil applications: It is used to eliminate magnesium deficiency in alkaline soils.

    •    Organic agriculture: It has forms in accordance with the European Union organic agriculture legislation.

 

2) Feed Industry (Animal Nutrition)

    •    Mineral additive: Prevents magnesium deficiency in farm animals and supports metabolism.

    •    In premixes: It is used to prevent deficiency problems such as grass tetany (hypomagnesemia).

 

3) Food Industry (E518)

    •    Additive: Identified by the code E518 in the European Union.

    •    Areas of use: Boiling salt in beer production, coagulant in tofu making, stabilizer in mineral-added foods.

 

4) Textile Industry

    •    Dyeing and finishing: It facilitates the adhesion of dyestuffs to the fibers and increases process efficiency.

    •    Bleaching additive: It plays a stabilizing role in some peroxide bleaching processes.

    •    Melting promoter: Provides flow control in ceramic clay, is a glaze and engobe additive.
