What is Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate?

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a white inorganic compound that is almost insoluble in water but soluble in acids. It is produced by the French process (oxidation of zinc vapor) or wet chemical methods. It has a wide range of uses thanks to its high purity, chemical stability and UV absorption feature.

Main Areas of Use

1) Rubber and Tire

    •    Vulcanization activator: In rubber production, zinc oxide accelerates the curing reaction with sulfur.

    •    Durability and performance: Increases the mechanical properties and life of tires.

 

2) Paint and Coating

    •    Anticorrosion additive: It is used as an auxiliary pigment against corrosion on steel surfaces.

    •    UV absorber: Increases the resistance of paints to sunlight.

 

3) Cosmetics and Sunscreen

    •    UV filter: Approved in the US and EU for up to 25% sunscreen products.

    •    Nano form: Banned in spray products for safety reasons, can be used in other formulations.

4) Pharmaceuticals and Medical Products

    •    Topical protectant: Found in ointments and creams against diaper rash, minor irritations and skin conditions.

    •    Traditional use: Known for its skin protective properties for centuries.

 

5) Food and Supplement

    •    Zinc source: Used in nutritional enrichment and supplement products.

    •    Regulatory: Use levels are limited by Codex and local regulations.

 

6) Ceramics and Glass

    •    Flux and opacifier: It facilitates melting in glazes and provides crystal effects.

    •    Glass-ceramic: Creates special surface appearances with zinc silicate phases.

 

7) Electronics and Materials Science

    •    Varistors: ZnO-based ceramics are used in surge arresters that limit overvoltage.

    •    Ferrites: Raw material for MnZn ferrite cores.

    •    Transparent conductive film: Al-doped ZnO (AZO) is being examined as an alternative to ITO.

 

8) Cement and Dentistry

    •    Set retarder: Slows down cement hydration.

    •    Dentistry: Along with Eugenol, it is the main component of zinc oxide cements used for temporary fillings.

 

9) Animal Nutrition

    •    Mineral supplement: Used to prevent zinc deficiency.

    •    Note: High dose veterinary use is banned in the EU, only permitted at nutritional levels.
