What is Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate?
Zinc sulfate monohydrate (ZnSO₄·H₂O) is a crystalline form of zinc with a high zinc content. It provides a higher concentration of zinc than heptahydrate and is preferred in many industries such as agriculture, feed, metal plating, mineral processing, and textiles.
Main Areas of Application
1) Agriculture (Plant Nutrition and Foliar Fertilizers)
• Zinc source: Used as soil application or foliar fertilizer.
• Because it contains a higher percentage of zinc compared to heptahydrate, it can produce the same effect at lower doses.
• It is effective in correcting zinc deficiency in grains, vegetables, and fruit trees.
2) Feed Industry (Animal Nutrition)
• Trace mineral supplement: Used in animal feed to correct zinc deficiency and improve immunity and growth performance.
• It is preferred in premix and mineral additive formulations.
3) Metal Coating / Electrogalvanizing
• As an electrolyte: Used in preparing solutions for zinc plating baths.
• It plays a critical role in obtaining zinc coatings that increase the corrosion resistance of surfaces.
4) Mineral Enrichment (Depressant in Flotation)
• Sphalerite (ZnS) depressant: Used in the separation of Cu-Pb-Zn complex ores.
• It enables selective flotation by passivating the sphalerite surface.
5) Textiles and Paper (Mordant, Finishing)
• Mordant in dyeing: Enables dyes to bind to fibers.
• It can be used as an additive in paper production to improve appearance and durability.
6) Chemical Industry
• Raw material/reagent in various syntheses,
• Intermediate in the production of lithopone pigments.
• It acts as a coagulant in rayon (artificial silk) production.
7) Water and Surface Applications
• It can be used for algae and biofilm control in some industrial applications.
