Areas of Use, Benefits, Sectors
Learn about the applications of zinc sheets in roofing and facade cladding, gutter systems, decorative design, electroplating, anodic protection, and industrial production.
What is zinc sheet?
Zinc sheet is a product made from rolled pure zinc or titanium-zinc alloy, used in the form of flat and thin metal plates. Its high corrosion resistance, long service life, ease of shaping, and aesthetic appearance make it widely preferred in construction, architecture, chemical, and decorative applications.
Zinc sheets are manufactured in accordance with international standards such as EN 988 (Titanium-Zinc sheets) and ASTM B69.
Main Areas of Application
1. Construction and Architecture
• Roofing: Thanks to its natural patina layer, it has a lifespan of 80–100 years; it is applied using the standing-seam technique.
• Facade cladding: An aesthetically pleasing and durable exterior surface material for modern buildings.
• Gutter and stormwater systems: Corrosion-resistant gutters and downpipes.
• Detail coverings: Ridge, window sill, window surround, and roof junctions.
2. Decorative and Interior Design
• Furniture and countertops: Bar, kitchen, furniture surface coverings.
• Arts and crafts: Engravings, reliefs, ornamentation, and decorative panels.
• Surface treatments: Aesthetic surfaces such as brushed, patinated, or chrome/nickel plated.
3. Electroplating and Surface Treatments
• Anode plate: Used as an anode in zinc plating baths.
• Metal coating: Protects steel parts from corrosion by coating them with zinc.
4. Anodic Protection / Corrosion Control (Niche Applications)
• Tank and storage interiors: Zinc plates or strips provide cathodic protection by acting as galvanic anodes.
• Note: Cast anodes are more commonly used in pipelines and ships; plate anodes are preferred in limited areas.
5. Electrical and Electronics (Niche Use)
• Grounding busbars, EMI shielding panels: Offer the advantage of electrical conductivity and easy shaping.
6. Industrial Manufacturing
• Formed parts: Thin construction parts that are pressed, bent, and soldered.
• Chemical industry: Raw material in the production of zinc salts; however, powder/granule forms are generally preferred.
7. Roof Biofilm Control (Practical Application)
• Zinc strips: Zn²⁺ ions released by rainwater from zinc strips placed on the roof ridge prevent the formation of moss and lichen.
